First, you can’t post photos to your Instagram account if you’re using a standard PC with a mouse and keyboard. Or rather, it’s lack of creativity for the port. Profile: See how others see your profile and it’s where you can make any profile changes to your account.ĭrawbacks to Instagram for Windows have to do with its optimization. Heart: Shows you which posts were liked by people you follow and which of your posts received a like. Unfortunately the Windows UI does not work too well here and the search still brings up every result in a single list format. Search: You can search for people, tags, and places. Home: Brings you to the main Instagram feed where each new scroll introduces a new post on which you can like (therefore feeding some algorithm-suggestions about future content you might enjoy), leave a comment, direct message to someone else, or make the post a bookmark. The bottom rung of the interface has the same four icons of a home button, the magnifying glass search button, the heart button, and finally your profile. If you work in the social media field and have to do a lot of DM writing – perhaps you’re selling a product or doing other sorts of outreach – a keyboard is an infinitely better tool for writing than a mobile phone touchscreen. Here is where the PC version shows a strength. The top rung of the app has a camera icon where you can take a snapshot from your webcam, a refresh icon to update your feed, and the DM icon that looks like paper plane. It looks the same as it does on the mobile app. Once you’re up and running, the interface will be immediately familiar. It took a minute to find the login option for current users and the designers should have made it clearer. After 80 megabytes of downloading and installation you’re prompted to sign up. You can either go to the website or the store app directly on your Windows PC. Instagram for Windows is available for download from the Microsoft store. For the moment though, if you want variety + user experience, Netflix is where it's at.Instagram still plays best on phones and but the PC version lets you scratch the IG itch almost as well. There has been talk of changes (rival services joining forces) which could change the outlook. Depending on where you are in the world, you may have other rival services, but they're smaller than Netflix and offer less variety. Insofar as a movie and TV hub that offers such variety and is accessible to many, many users, no - Netflix doesn't have many competitors. You can also use Netflix online, and there are versions for Mac, iPhone, and Android. This particular version is for Windows computers. There is a good help section and lots of third-party online resources, but as it is a paid service, traditional customer support will solve your issues quickly and professionally. Sure, every Netflix instance has certain limitations in availability (geographical regions have different options), but if you claim that you can't find anything to watch, you're really not looking hard enough! When it comes to media variety, you'll be spoilt for choice. The player is naturally very minimalist, so as not to take away from what you're watching and, when the player is in full-screen mode, it's completely invisible. Once you've started to play a title, you'll have program-specific features, like subtitles, language, and screen options available on the player interface itself. They've deliberately kept the options to a minimum and, where there are options, they're very easy to see and change. Using the app, to both play media and to change configuration settings like the kids' controls, is very easy. These options alone are one of Netflix's best features. You can then further soft limit them by age range, or by hard limit - a PIN number. If there are any children in the house, you'll be able to set up an account for them, limiting them to the series and movies available on the children's profile Netflix Kids. Once you've sorted membership, you can create sub-accounts within the account, allowing different members of your household to have their own account with its personal settings and history. The plans are basic, standard, and premium. ![]() There are three membership plans, graded by how many screens you can watch simultaneously, and what quality video you'll be able to watch. To use Netflix, you'll need to have an account and pay for membership. This app has a sleek, simple interface where finding and playing a video or episode of a TV show takes an absolute minimum of effort. Much in the same way that Netflix revolutionized online video to make it as easy and comfortable as turning on a TV set, their software for Windows follows in the same vein. When it comes to media variety, you'll be spoiled for choice. Netflix for Windows is a great, all-round experience
